Butterfly Marketing Example Discover cPanel

One of my own best Butterfly Marketing sites (based on numbers as well as user feedback) is a site where we took a simple need, and developed a concrete solution.
It’s called Discover cPanel, and I created the site in partnership with another BFM member Chris Morris.
The entire site is dedicated to teaching people how to control all the different pieces of their website without having to pay a webmaster.
Chris and I both used to be webmasters, so we know what people can be charged to do really simple things you should be able to do yourself. So by teaching these skills, and the internet marketing reasons behind them, we hope people can save their money for more important things, like graphics, customer support, mentoring, etc.
I won’t go into the overall profit of this site, but I will say we have over 13,000 members, with about 2000 members who upgraded at some point along the way. It’s also cool that we’ve paid out over $40,000 in affiliate commissions to date.
Let me share how Butterfly Marketing is used in this particular site.
First, we’re giving away a free video tutorial to encourage people to sign up.
This is very typical of a Butterfly Marketing site. Give something valuable away, to show the quality of what’s inside the paid product. Some BFM sites do not allude to the idea that there’s something to buy. But in this case, we are very clear that this is the first of an entire set of videos.
I think that’s helped this site have such great upgrade conversions (continues to be right around 15%!).
Once inside, members have the opportunity to purchase the entire library (15 videos) at a discount in what’s called an OTO, or one time offer. Since the person who buys on the OTO is typically a previous customer, or someone referred by one of our trusted affiliates, we give them a 50% discount on the regular price.
The Butterfly Marketing script includes the ability to set this OTO to never appear to the same person’s account. If they say no, we use the BFM downsell feature to offer a different package that includes less features at a lower price.
The script also has the upgrades dynamically set inside the members area. So if someone declines to buy the OTO, their members area includes a link to upgrade their membership.
And since the script also includes an autoresponder based on the membership level of the user, we also send out periodic emails to educate the free users about the additional features of cPanel they are missing out on. And if they want to learn those features faster by watching videos, then they’re encouraged to upgrade.
Other strategies of Butterfly Marketing on display at Discover cPanel include integrated marketing. This is where you use the real estate inside your website to make complimentary recommendations. For example, one of our videos shows you how to create your 404 error pages - those pages that come up when someone goes to a bad link on your site.
Although we demonstrate exactly how to set those pages up and give a couple of examples of ways to capitalize on lost traffic, it’s not the most authoratitive tutorial for error page strategies. So as people watch the video, they see a link in the members area to learn even more 404 error page strategies at Jason Dinner’s excellent Butterfly site, 404 Secrets.
Let me share one last way Discover cPanel is a great BFM example. Perhaps it’s the most important.
As with any Butterfly site, a new member is instantly an affiliate for that site as well. So as soon as they login, they receive their unique referral link. But more importantly, one of the features we use effectively here is the referral reward system.
With Butterfly Marketing, you can give a member an upgrade based on their number of referrals. So in this case, we give people 2 more free videos if they refer just 3 members. This taps into what Mike Filsaime calls the Vx, or the Viral Exponent of the site. To this date, 80% or more of our members come from affiliates, and not from our own advertising efforts.
So take a look at Discover cPanel both as a potential subscriber/customer and as a student of Butterfly Marketing.
Then think about how you could use a similar set up to sell your own products or services with Butterfly Marketing Software. If you’d like to learn how to get BFM 2.0 for free, put your name and email in the box to the right, and I’ll give you the full story.
Bob Jenkins
p.s. Discover cPanel continues to get 10-30 new members a day, and 1-8 sales - all pretty much on autopilot. It’s a perfect example of how Butterfly Marketing can support your online business.

Nice to see you added commenting also … I happened to wander here while the site was still a bit under construction.
I was happy to read how well you’ve done for yourself with BFM.
I still remember when we first met at Rich Sherfren’s Strategic Profits event a year ago … munching snacks with Mike Filsaime in one of the suites LOL
Keep up the good work - definately enjoy reading your posts

Bob,
Terrific description and follow up for how these things are supposed to be integrated.
You always have gone overboard with delivery and help. There should be MORE people listening to you!
Of course, the beauty of the BFM model is once things are set up, automated income continues without much hands-on detail!
Isn’t that what we are after in an online business? (Unless you are dealing in a coaching site or similar…)
Best,
Paul

Hey Bob,
This is a great post!
We’ve had a great success with http://www.DiscoverCpanel.com/ because of the quality of our product and because of our affiliates. And you’re absolutely right guys, it’s been totally hands off for the most part which is why I love Butterfly Marketing.
We set this up once and we continue to get paid over and over again and it’s because of the built in affiliate program that is directly integrated with BFM script. Like Bob said, once you join free or become a paid member, you’re instantly an affiliate.
There are not a lot of hoops to jump through and because of the BFM affiliate program built in, we’re able to create killer promotion tools that were designed to make you money now. Simply put it’s all plug and play. Once you’re a member you can easily grab tools you want to use in your promotion and we’ve taken out all the guess work because we have tested and tweaked it to maximize your profits.
Giving away free content on your front end is probably one of my favorite techniques to use. That completely eliminates all the “What if this sucks” questions that most buyers find themselves asking when they’re on a sales letter.
By giving them a sample you increase your chances of a sale if not immediately. I’m very proud of the DCP series, I know Bob is too. We’ve even had the privilege of hanging out with some of the members after meeting at a seminar or workshop which is always cool.
If you don’t have a product yet don’t worry…Bob has posted a couple places to help get you started, I’m going to be working on something similar soon because I know that it’s important for my friends and subscribers so that’s definitely coming.
If you already have a product or at least plr or resale rights to a great product then you should definitely attach an affiliate program to the product. As Bob stated, we have a lot of affiliates out there and it’s because we have the tools in place to allow our members to also share the information while making a great side income from it.
This is great information Bob, this is so typical you giving away cool stuff for nothing
I know that these guys and our members have always appreciated that fact.
Take Care & See Ya Soon Hopefully,
Chris
